Aplicación de la convención sobre la eliminación de todas las formas de discriminación (cedaw) con enfoque en las mujeres indígenas y afroecuatorianas en materia de participación política en el período 2016 – 2018

Abstract

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 12/18/1979, which entered into force in September 1981, signed by Ecuador on 17/07 / 1980 and incorporated into our legal system by Legislative Resolution No. 000 published in Official Gazette No. 108 of October 27, 1981, establishes in its Art. 1 that the term "discrimination against women" shall denote all distinctions, exclusions or restriction based on sex that has as its object or as a result the impairment or nullification of the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, regardless of their marital status, on the basis of the equality of men and women, of human rights and freedoms fundamental in the political, economic, social, cultural and civil spheres or in any other field. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) of 2018, there is a population of 16,528,730 million inhabitants in Ecuador [50.4% women and 49.6% men], there being a population difference of 132.590, more women than men. However, the political representation of women in the national, provincial and cantonal levels is absolutely disproportionate in favor of men, and, most serious, is that in relation to the political representation of indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian women, in all the scopes, it's tiny.
