Abstract: The present investigation characterizes genotypicaly bovine biotype Pizan, whose good milk production, high rusticity and adaptability to adverse conditions makes it an excellent line for dairy production in the north of the country. It also has great genetic importance because it was created and developed for the geographic and climatic characteristics of the area. Samples were taken throughout the province of Carchi, taking GPS points to georeference the sampling sites. A bovinometric examination was performed to standardize the physical characteristics of the biotype. In addition, a molecular characterization was performed using Polymorphic Length Restriction Fragments (RFLP) to know how much of the original biotype genetics is still conserved in the province's cattle. A total of 131 animals were sampled, of which 27 have 100% similarity to the original biotype (20.61%), which indicates that genetics is being lost.
